Bernheim Barrel Proof Batch C925 is an uncut, non-chill filtered Kentucky straight wheat whiskey from Heaven Hill's Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, bottled at 118.4 proof (59.2% ABV).
Bernheim Original was the first new straight wheat whiskey introduced in America since Prohibition, and the first to use winter wheat as its primary grain, giving a soft, sweet, smooth flavour. The mash bill is 51% winter wheat, 37% corn and 12% malted barley.
Released twice a year, each Barrel Proof batch is aged seven to nine years in new charred American oak in open-air rickhouses, then bottled straight from the barrel with no proofing down and no chill filtration, the wheat mash bill in its pure form.
Expect sweet pears, raspberry jam and tart citrus on the nose, a palate of dark berries, black pepper and toasty tannins, and a long, warming finish. A limited batch, it makes a fine gift for whiskey collectors.
Sip it neat, then add a little water to taste.
American whiskey covers a wide range of styles, from bourbon and rye to single malts and light whiskeys, and independent blenders and small producers have made it one of the most exciting categories in spirits.
A straight wheat whiskey is made from at least 51% wheat and aged at least two years in new charred oak containers.
