Bib & Tucker Double Char is a small-batch bourbon aged six years in new American oak in Tennessee, then aged again in a second, heavily charred and smoked new barrel, bottled at 88 proof (44% ABV).
At the turn of the century most food was cooked on the open flame, and people gathered around the campfire to cook, share stories and celebrate with small-batch bourbon. Inspired by those times and that flavor, Bib & Tucker created Double Char: the bourbon is first aged six years in new white American oak in the rolling hills of Tennessee, then spends a minimum of five months in a second heavily charred barrel. This twice-barreled method creates a smooth, rich and colorful bourbon with savory, smoky notes.
A rich nose of smoky, savory layers moves through brown sugar, maple candy, pie spice and heavy vanilla, with baking spice on the palate and caramel and vanilla on a relatively long, exceptionally smooth finish.
The embossed decanter-style bottle makes it a handsome gift.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
Double charring adds extra smoke and caramel.
A splash of water opens the nose.
