Big Easy Whiskey is a 5-year straight whiskey made from a bourbon mash and infused with 24 natural botanicals and fruits by the Big Easy Spirits Company (BESCO) of New Orleans, bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV).
BESCO set out to put the whiskey back in flavored whiskey, using a well-aged base instead of neutral spirits. The whiskey is distilled in Kentucky and Indiana from a traditional bourbon mash bill of 81% corn, 15% rye and 4% barley, then aged five years in used bourbon barrels for a softer taste less influenced by fresh wood. Master Blender Kieran Walsh then adds a proprietary blend of herbs, spices and fruit that enhances rather than masks the whiskey. BESCO was founded by New Orleans natives and spirits industry veterans, and Big Easy debuted in February 2025.
On the nose, the familiar toasty character of American whiskey gives way to comforting baking spices: vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. Complex, amaro-like herbal notes of cedar and lemon balm linger on the palate, like an Old Fashioned in a glass.
The ornate New Orleans label makes it a fun gift.
Used bourbon barrels give a gentler wood influence than new oak.
New Orleans has a long cocktail heritage, from the Sazerac to the Vieux Carré.
Add a dash of bitters and an orange peel for an instant Old Fashioned.
It pairs with pralines, beignets or barbecue.
It is a fun gift for anyone who loves New Orleans.
