Black Button Citrus Forward Gin is a bright, orange-led American gin from Black Button Distilling in Rochester, New York, distilled from local New York grains and bottled at 84 proof (42% ABV).
Bourbon may be Black Button's first love, but gin is a close second. Head distiller Jeff Fairbrother and founder Jason Barrett were among the first Americans welcomed into the Gin Guild, the London organization that promotes excellence in gin distillation. Every batch is distilled, bottled, labeled and hand-numbered in Rochester.
The base is 94% Danko rye and 6% malted barley. The botanicals are juniper, coriander, grains of paradise, sweet and bitter orange peel, lemon peel, cardamom, angelica root, star anise, cinnamon bark and New York State Cascade hops. Rich, juicy orange delivers a bold fruit taste that matches the Cascade hops and delicate juniper, and Food & Beverage Magazine named it The Official Gin of Summer.
Bright citrus leads on the nose, with a hint of spice and hops on the tongue. The balance between piney juniper and zesty citrus is harmonious, summer in a bottle, and the finish is clean and refreshing.
