Bluecoat Elderflower is an American Dry gin from Philadelphia Distilling, made from the Bluecoat base and rested on whole organic elderflowers, with no additives, bottled at 94 proof (47% ABV).
Bluecoat is distilled in Philadelphia and pioneered what is now known as the American Dry style of gin, handcrafted using a proprietary blend of natural, 100% organic botanicals highlighted by American citrus peels and a softer juniper berry. The name honors the Bluecoat soldiers, the free-thinking revolutionaries who boldly fought for independence. Philadelphia Distilling opened in 2005 as the first craft distillery in Pennsylvania since Prohibition, and its gins are distilled in hand-hammered copper pot stills. Bluecoat stands for craftsmanship, urban renewal and responsible sourcing, values shared with the distillery's home in Philadelphia's Fishtown neighborhood.
Philadelphia Distilling's team was eager to experiment with the delicate touch of elderflower. The Elderflower Expression uses the same base as Bluecoat American Dry Gin: the gin is distilled at 158 proof and then steeped with whole, organic elderflowers for two weeks at room temperature. The result is an authentic gin with real flavor infusion and absolutely no additives, a continuation of the distillery's local legacy in gin.
The whole elderflowers transform the spirit with light floral and tropical fruit flavors and a heady fragrance, layered over Bluecoat's bright citrus and soft juniper.
With its delicate, floral notes, it is best in a Vesper or an Elderflower Martini, and it works beautifully in a gin and soda or in cocktails with lemon or sparkling wine.
