Bobby's Schiedam Jenever is a Dutch jenever that combines traditional malt wine with juniper and Indonesian spices, made in Schiedam, the historic heart of the Dutch jenever industry, and bottled at 76 proof (38% ABV).
Jacobus Alfons, Bobby to his family and friends, was born in Indonesia and moved to the Netherlands in 1950, settling in Schiedam. He loved Dutch jenever but missed the taste of home, so he began infusing his jenever with familiar Indonesian spices and herbs, unknowingly creating his own gin. Years later his grandson Sebastiaan discovered an old jenever bottle at his mother's house and, inspired by his grandfather's story and recipe, went to Schiedam.
There he teamed up with the seventh-generation master distiller of the Herman Jansen distillery, where Herman Jansen distilled his first malt wine jenever in 1777. After two years of trying, tinkering and tasting, Bobby's was launched in 2014. The green bottle is a modern interpretation of the classic jenever kruik, screen-printed with a uniquely Indonesian ikat pattern, a meeting of east and west. Only organic ingredients are used.
Malt wine based and fragrant on the nose, it delivers a fresh burst of lemongrass and herbs at first sip, with Dutch craftsmanship and Indonesian spice in perfect balance. It is a gold-award-winning jenever.
