Boondocks Cask Strength is an 11-year-old American whiskey aged in Kentucky in refill American oak and bottled at 127 proof (63.5% ABV).
Boondocks is the creation of master distiller Dave Scheurich, a 40-year veteran of the spirits industry, formerly of Woodford Reserve, and winner of Whisky Advocate's Lifetime Achievement Award, launched with Royal Wine Corporation in 2016. The whiskey is made from a mash of corn, rye and malted barley, but it is distilled to a higher proof than bourbon allows and aged in used rather than new barrels, so it is labelled American whiskey. The label carries the 40004 Bardstown zip code, Scheurich's signature and the words Aged in Kentucky.
It has distinctive aromas of rich caramel and vanilla, with honey, nutty notes, cinnamon and tobacco leaf. A robust, pleasantly aggressive palate is highlighted by fall spices, molasses, clove and oak, leading to a long-lasting finish. It earned a Gold Medal and 91 points at the Los Angeles International Spirits Competition.
A big, full-strength whiskey from a legendary distiller, it makes a bold gift.
American whiskey covers a wide range of styles, from bourbon and rye to single malts and light whiskeys, and independent blenders and small producers have made it one of the most exciting categories in spirits.
