Breckenridge Bourbon is an award-winning high-rye bourbon from Breckenridge Distillery in Colorado, aged a minimum of three years in charred new American oak and bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV).
Breckenridge Distillery sits at 9,600 feet in the town of Breckenridge, high in the Rocky Mountains, making it one of the world's highest distilleries. The extreme elevation and dramatic temperature swings accelerate maturation and deepen flavor extraction from the barrel. The bourbon uses an unusually high-rye mash bill of 56% corn, 38% rye and 6% barley, is blended to reveal its unique qualities through careful mingling of casks at each bottling, and is proofed with pure Rocky Mountain snowmelt, whose natural minerality gives it a luscious mouthfeel.
Deep honey-amber in color, it shows pronounced aromas of butterscotch, candied orange and apple; dry cacao and brown sugar envelop the tongue, and it lingers with notes of vanilla and white pepper.
The mountain-made label makes it a great gift for skiers and Colorado lovers.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
High altitude speeds up barrel interaction.
A splash of water opens the orange notes.
