Every drop of Re/Define Thirty was matured in bourbon casks, but in two different ways. Half the whisky spent its full three decades in refill hogsheads, which let the delicate, floral Bruichladdich spirit develop slowly. The other half was moved into fresh bourbon casks after twenty years, adding vanilla, coconut and toasted oak. The two parts were then vatted together and married for three months in refill bourbon barrels before bottling at 43% ABV.
Bruichladdich is known for doing things its own way, and the packaging follows suit. The bottle is made from an average of 60% recycled glass, and the outer box is formed from paper pulp rather than plastic or foil. The result is a quietly striking bottle that puts the focus on the whisky inside: Islay single malt at its most mature, with floral, fruity and gently coastal character.
