Burnside Goose Hollow RSV is a small-batch blend of straight bourbons aged four to seven years, finished for 45 days in Oregon white oak (Quercus garryana) casks by Eastside Distilling in Portland, Oregon, and bottled at 92 proof (46% ABV).
Each bourbon in the blend was selected to best exploit and enhance the nuances of a medium-charred Garryana cask, creating a South-meets-West bourbon and a seamless marriage of Southern spice and Northwest oak. The Burnside family commemorates Burnside Street, Eastside's home, a thriving hub alive with creative expression, famous venues, iconic record stores and daily street performances at the epicenter of Portland's music scene. Eastside Distilling began in 2008 and became the first publicly traded distillery in Portland.
Pine, smoky coals and robust oak greet the nose. It enters unflinchingly and undergoes a metamorphosis on the palate from peppery wood and bitter chocolate to tobacco, plums, apricot and vanilla, moving from dry oak and spice toward fruit and sweetness.
The bright blue label makes it a bold gift for bourbon explorers.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
