Burrito Fiestero Tepemete is a limited ancestral mezcal from Durango, made by maestro mezcalero Juan Conde from Tepemete, a variety of Agave angustifolia.

The agaves are milled by hand with axes and distilled in a traditional clay and wood still, with the drops of spirit running through bamboo into a collector. Each bottle is hand-painted by a local artist, and Burrito Fiestero's One for One campaign plants a cenizo maguey for every bottle produced.

The nose brings red apple, pear, vanilla and fresh soil, and the palate is sweet and approachable.

The hand-painted purple bottle makes it a joyful gift for agave enthusiasts.

Sip it slowly from a copita.

Mezcal is made by roasting agave hearts, traditionally in earthen pits, then crushing, fermenting and distilling them, a process that gives the spirit its characteristic smoky depth. Each agave variety and each village brings its own character, which is why enthusiasts love exploring small-batch bottlings.

Mezcal and other agave spirits are traditionally sipped from a copita or a small clay cup, in small sips, often alongside orange slices dusted with sal de gusano. Many are made in tiny batches by individual families, so each bottle is a snapshot of a particular place, agave and season.

Ancestral is the most traditional category of mezcal, requiring hand or stone milling, natural fermentation and distillation in clay pots over direct fire, with no copper or modern equipment. Durango's high, dry plateau gives its agave spirits a distinctive character, and producers there have been distilling for generations.
