Cadenhead's Classic Rum is a full-strength blend of Caribbean rums from Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Panama, combining pot-still and column-still rums, bottled by Cadenhead's of Campbeltown at 100 proof (50% ABV) without chill filtration or added color.
Cadenhead's, established in 1842 and based in Campbeltown, Scotland, is an independent bottler owned by J. & A. Mitchell & Co., the proprietors of Springbank. It has been bottling whisky and rum for generations, and its Classic Rum has become a cult-favorite blend among rum enthusiasts.
The Classic Rum marries pot-still and column-still rums from across the Caribbean, from Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Panama, to balance depth and richness with smoothness. In keeping with Cadenhead's philosophy, it is bottled at a generous 50% ABV, without chill filtration and without added coloring.
The nose is rich and sweet, very fruity, with fresh tobacco leaves and a hint of Christmas cake. The palate brings dark fruits, aromatic spices, a creamy quality and dark chocolate: full-bodied and smooth, very fruity and slightly spicy.
At full strength it rewards a splash of water when sipped neat, and it makes an outstanding Old Fashioned, a rich Daiquiri or a Mai Tai.
Aged rum is one of the most diverse spirits in the world, shaped by the sugarcane, the still and the warm climates where it matures, which speed up the interaction between spirit and wood.
