Calumet Farm 8 Year Old is a Kentucky straight bourbon made in very small batches of fewer than 50 hand-selected barrels, bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV).
Each very small batch of Calumet Farm 8 Year Old is crafted from hand-selected barrels of premium Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, distilled and aged in Kentucky from a mash bill of 74% corn, 18% rye and 8% malted barley. It is aged eight years in new charred American oak and bottled by Three Springs Bottling Company in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Deep amber with golden highlights, it opens with a full, rich aroma of aged oak and deep undertones of vanilla. A hint of vanilla and fruit upfront rolls into soft white pepper and a full woody taste, with black cherry and a touch of citrus zest, and a balanced sweetness lingers as a rich yet subtle caramel fades, warming the entire palate.
The classic red-and-gold label makes it a fine gift.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
