Campo Azul 1940 Blanco is a confirmed additive-free 100% agave tequila from the Highlands of Jalisco (NOM 1416), cooked slowly in masonry ovens and double distilled, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).

Born from the red earth of Jesús María in Jalisco's highlands, Casa Campo Azul honors the legacy of its founder, Don Ricardo López, who began crafting tequila in 1940 using his family's generations of agave-growing expertise. Tequila 1940 follows a traditional process: agave cooked in masonry ovens for 30 hours of direct steam at lower pressure, rested 24 hours and cooled 18 hours, then slowly and naturally fermented before double distillation.

Spice and light mint lead the nose with touches of fresh vegetal agave. The palate brings sweet cooked agave, licorice and bright citrus, finishing with pleasant pepper and building warmth.

The classic label makes it a lovely gift for tequila purists.

Blanco tequila is bottled unaged or rested for less than two months, so it shows the agave at its purest: bright, peppery and fresh. It is the classic choice for margaritas and palomas, and a good blanco is just as rewarding sipped neat.

Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
