Caravedo Mosto Verde is an award-winning acholado pisco from Peru, formerly known as Pisco Portón, hand-crafted at Destilería La Caravedo, the oldest distillery in the Americas, established in 1684. It is single distilled to 86 proof (43% ABV).
Mosto verde means it is distilled from partially fermented grape juice, pure wine with no pomace, so it keeps more of the grape's natural sweetness and aroma. It takes about 8 kilos (18 pounds) of a blend of Quebranta, Torontel, Italia and Albilla grapes to make one 750ml bottle. The pisco is unaged and rests in stainless steel for a year, and it is sustainably harvested.
The aroma is fresh, clean and fruity, with melon, grape, white vanilla and honeycrisp apple. The flavor is rich, warming and full-bodied, with an intense, creamy texture and notes of cinnamon and orange blossom.
Its elegant bottle makes it a fine gift, and it is the perfect base for a Pisco Sour.
Pisco is Peru's national spirit, a grape brandy distilled to proof and never diluted with water.
Acholado means a blend of grape varieties, combining aromatic and non-aromatic grapes for balance.
The Pisco Sour, made with lime, sugar, egg white and bitters, is Peru's national cocktail.
