Casa México Añejo is a 100% blue agave Highland tequila from Jalisco, rested 12 months in American white oak barrels and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).

It is produced with fully mature blue agave handpicked from the mineral-rich red clay soils of the Highlands of Jalisco. The piñas are cooked in brick ovens for two days, crushed with a tahona mill, naturally fermented and double distilled in copper alambique stills at NOM 1589 before resting a full year in oak. Founded by Don Buccio, with partners Mario Lopez and Oscar De La Hoya, the brand is crafted under the guidance of Maestra Tequilera Ana María Romero Mena. The finished añejo is an all-natural, smooth, amber-hued spirit.

The profile is clean and nutty, with toasted agave and a hint of smoked oak.

The arched rose-gold label and wooden stopper make it a handsome gift.

Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.

Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.

A year in oak gives the tequila its amber color and rounded body.

Serve it in a snifter to gather the toasted aromas.

A few drops of water open the nutty notes.

It pairs nicely with dark chocolate after dinner.

It makes a smooth sipping tequila for celebrations.
