Rey Sol 20th Anniversary is a rare single-barrel extra añejo from Casa San Matías, created to celebrate twenty years of its celebrated Rey Sol tequila. Aged for ten years in French oak barrels, it is bottled at cask strength, 45% ABV, with nothing diluted.
The standard Rey Sol is aged for six years, which already makes it one of the longest-aged tequilas available. For the anniversary, Casa San Matías went further, maturing this release for a full decade and bottling it from a single barrel, so each bottle holds tequila from one cask in a very small production run.
Ten years in French oak build intense flavours of caramel, vanilla, roasted coffee, wood and toasted almonds. At cask strength the tequila is rich and concentrated, and it develops slowly in the glass, rewarding patience.
Rey Sol is famous for its hand-blown glass decanter in the shape of a smiling sun, and the anniversary edition is presented in a black display case with a gold Rey Sol medallion and a sun motif. It is a remarkable collector's piece and a magnificent gift.
