Cask & Coast California Blended Reserve is a four-grain bourbon whiskey blended in San Diego and finished in California Cabernet wine casks, bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV) and presented in a wooden gift box.
Cask & Coast Spirits Co. was founded by former San Diego City Councilman Mark Kersey and certified sommelier Richard Montaño, launching its Premium California Bourbon in November 2022. The bourbon is distilled and matured in the Midwest in new American oak, then blended in San Diego and finished in California Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc wine casks from local vineyards.
The four-grain recipe brings together corn, wheat, rye and barley, and the bourbons are blended from different mashbills before their Cabernet finish, marrying classic bourbon sweetness with the red-fruit depth of California wine country.
Presented in its wooden box, it is a handsome gift for bourbon and wine lovers alike.
Sip it neat or over a large ice cube.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
Four-grain bourbons use both rye and wheat alongside corn and malted barley, combining the spice of a high-rye bourbon with the softness of a wheated one.
