Cask & Coast was founded by former San Diego City Councilman Mark Kersey and certified sommelier Richard Montaño, and launched its Premium California Bourbon in November 2022. Its bourbon is distilled and matured in the Midwest in new American oak, then brought to San Diego and finished in Cabernet wine casks from local California vineyards, marrying classic bourbon with California wine country.
This single barrel, cask-strength anniversary release won a gold medal at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Expect vanilla bean, almond, cocoa and candied pecans, with the red-fruit depth of the Cabernet cask.

Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
