Chairman's Reserve The Forgotten Casks is an extra-aged St. Lucian sipping rum from St. Lucia Distillers, a blend of column and pot still rums, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV) in a 700ml bottle.
On May 2, 2007, a major fire struck St. Lucia Distillers. Most of the distillery was spared, but much of its cask storage was lost, and cellar master Cyril Mangal had to find room for aging barrels in the most unusual places. Some of those casks were tucked away and forgotten, only to be rediscovered later holding rum too old for the original Chairman's Reserve blend, so it was released on its own as an extra-aged Chairman's Reserve. The distillery continues to hold back select Chairman's Reserve casks to recreate that character: individual casks are aged, then blended and aged together for several more years in used American oak.
It has an intense nose of sweet raisin and sultana with hints of tobacco and vanilla from the oak, and an intense palate of sweet honeyed fruit and spice for a wonderfully complex rum.
Presented in its gift box, it makes an elegant present for rum lovers.
