Les Clans 2021 is a Côtes de Provence rosé from Château d'Esclans, made from 73% Grenache and 27% Rolle (Vermentino) and bottled at 14% ABV.
It is partially fermented in 600-litre oak barrels, giving it more body and texture than most rosés.
Red berry aromas meet toasty, hazelnut touches, white flowers and a hint of almond.
The palate is full-bodied but elegant, with pineapple, ginger and black licorice, and a long, juicy finish.
Les Clans sits just below Garrus in the Esclans range, and Wine & Spirits gave the 2021 91 points, noting it has the structure to age. It is a rosé for the dinner table, from the makers of Whispering Angel.
Good wine rewards a little care in serving. Whites and rosés show best chilled to around 45 to 50°F, while reds are at their most expressive slightly below room temperature, around 60 to 65°F. Opening the bottle and letting it breathe for a few minutes, or pouring it into a decanter, helps the aromas open up.
