Chivas Regal Extra is an exceptionally rich and generous blended Scotch whisky, selectively matured in sherry casks, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Chivas Regal traces its roots to Aberdeen in 1801, and its blends are built around Speyside malt whiskies, with Strathisla at their heart. Extra was created by master blender Colin Scott, whose signature appears on the label, as a richer, more indulgent expression of the house style.
The blend contains a high proportion of whiskies matured in Oloroso sherry casks, which give Extra its deep amber color and its layers of dried fruit, toffee and spice. Malt and grain whiskies from across Scotland are married to create a smooth, full-bodied blend.
Expect ripe pears, melon and creamy toffee on the nose, with milk chocolate, cinnamon and a hint of ginger. The palate brings sweet ripe pears in syrup, vanilla caramel, cinnamon and almonds, and the finish is long, warming and generous.
Chivas Regal Extra rewards slow sipping. Enjoy it neat in a tulip glass, with a few drops of water to open the sherry notes, or over a single large ice cube. It makes a rich Highball with chilled soda water and an orange twist, a smooth Rob Roy with sweet vermouth and bitters, and a warming Hot Toddy on winter nights. Pair it with dark chocolate, roasted nuts, figs and dates, sticky toffee pudding, aged cheddar or a slow-roasted lamb dinner. Its rich red and gold label makes it an impressive gift for birthdays, holidays and celebrations, and a crowd-pleasing pour for anyone who loves a sherried Scotch.
