Citadelle Original is the quintessential French gin, made with 19 botanicals at Château de Bonbonnet near Cognac and bottled at 88 proof (44% ABV).
Citadelle was created in 1996 by Maison Ferrand and its master blender Alexandre Gabriel, and is distilled in an 18th-century stone building on the Château de Bonbonnet estate in the village of Ars, near Cognac. Since its creation it has earned more than 100 medals, including a Master Medal, the highest distinction, at the 2025 Gin Masters.
Each of Citadelle's 19 botanicals is infused separately, at its own temperature and for its own length of time, through a progressive infusion process. The gin is then distilled in small Charentais copper pot stills of the kind traditionally used for Cognac, which gives it depth and structure.
Dry and structured, Citadelle strikes a balance between finesse and intensity. Juniper makes an immediate statement, complemented by a luscious citrus fragrance, and the finish is more exotic, with a spicy length of pepper, nutmeg and cinnamon.
Citadelle is ideal for a refreshing Gin and Tonic with a twist of lemon, and the brand pairs it with a platter of oysters for a true taste of French sophistication.
