Claridad Ensamble de Siete is an artisanal mezcal crafted by fifth-generation maestro mezcalero Onofre Ortiz Ortiz at his palenque in Bramaderos, Miahuatlán, Oaxaca, blending seven wild and cultivated agave varieties aged 8 to 20 years and bottled at 48% ABV in a 700ml bottle.
Onofre is the son of the legendary mezcalero Don Beto Ortiz. Living up to its name, Claridad, meaning clarity, this ensamble balances seven distinct agaves in a single field-blend batch, achieving great complexity without sacrificing a clean, harmonious profile.
It is an extraordinarily deep spirit that starts rich and sweet up front, then launches generous, evolving waves of savoury, fruity and herbal flavours across the palate.
The minimalist black label makes it a striking gift for mezcal collectors.
Sip it slowly from a copita.
Mezcal is made by roasting agave hearts, traditionally in earthen pits, then crushing, fermenting and distilling them, a process that gives the spirit its characteristic smoky depth. Each agave variety and each village brings its own character, which is why enthusiasts love exploring small-batch bottlings.
Mezcal and other agave spirits are traditionally sipped from a copita or a small clay cup, in small sips, often alongside orange slices dusted with sal de gusano. Many are made in tiny batches by individual families, so each bottle is a snapshot of a particular place, agave and season.
