Clear Creek Pear Brandy is an unaged eau de vie from Hood River, Oregon, distilled from whole Bartlett (Williams) pears and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Pear Brandy is the flagship of Clear Creek's fruit brandies, made in the tradition of France's classic Eau de Vie de Poire Williams. The clear fruit brandies of Europe, known in France as eau de vie, or water of life, are bone-dry spirits distilled from regional fruit, traditionally left unaged to keep the fruit's intensity. Clear Creek uses only pure, whole Pacific Northwest fruit: Bartlett pears from the Hood River Valley are crushed at their peak of ripeness, the whole-fruit mash is carefully fermented, and the spirit is distilled in German-made copper pot stills. It takes 20 pounds of pears to make a single bottle. It earned a Double Gold medal at the 2013 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
The pear nose is intense, the taste is strong but pure, and the aftertaste is clean, with a surprisingly strong taste of fresh pear.
The elegant pear label makes it a refined gift for after-dinner drinkers.
Eau de vie is traditionally served chilled in a small tulip glass.
A few sips after dinner cleanse the palate and aid digestion.
Try a splash in sparkling wine for an elegant pear spritz.
It adds lift to fruit desserts and poached pears.
Keep the bottle in the freezer door for a silky pour.
