Coalition Pauillac Barriques is a 100% rye Kentucky straight whiskey finished in barriques from Pauillac, bottled at 92.6 proof (46.3% ABV).
It is a small-production, single-estate rye made entirely from rye grown on a Waldeck farm in Crestwood, Kentucky, then finished in Bordeaux wine barriques from Pauillac.
Robust and confident, it has a dark, seductive amber colour and a very complex bouquet rich in blackberry, plum and cherry, with hints of coffee and spice, primarily black pepper. The palate shows generous volume with smoked nuts and a pleasant, well-integrated wood finish.
A rare meeting of Kentucky rye and Bordeaux, it makes a fine gift for wine and whiskey lovers.
Enjoy it neat or with a splash of water.
American rye whiskey is made from a mash of at least 51% rye and aged in new charred oak, giving it a spicier, drier character than bourbon, with notes of pepper, herbs and baking spice.
A straight rye whiskey is made from at least 51% rye and aged at least two years in new charred oak containers; this one is 100% rye.
A barrique is a 225-litre Bordeaux wine barrel made of French oak.
Pauillac, on Bordeaux's Left Bank, is home to some of the world's most famous Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
Wine barrique finishing adds dark fruit, gentle tannin and colour to rye's spice.
