Código 1530 Añejo is a private recipe refined over many generations by an artisan distilling family in Amatitán, aged 18 months in Napa Valley Cabernet French white oak wine barrels and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV), here in a 375ml bottle.

Lauded by tequila experts as one of the finest añejos available, it is crafted in Amatitán, Jalisco (NOM 1616) using traditional methods. It is made from 100% lowland blue agave, cooked in a low-pressure autoclave, fermented in open vats and twice distilled. The ex-Cabernet barrels impart subtle depth while preserving the freshness of the agave.

The nose offers vanilla, caramel, butterscotch and oak, with honey and light fruit. Smooth caramel and brown sugar arrive first on the palate, followed by cinnamon spice, vanilla cream and soft oak, and the finish is medium-length with lingering sweetness, gentle spice and delicate fruit.

The 375ml size makes a thoughtful gift or an easy way to discover Código.

Sip it neat or over a large ice cube.

Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.

Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
