Código 1530 Cristalino Reposado blends Código's reposado, aged in French white oak Napa Valley Cabernet wine barrels, with Código Origen Extra Añejo to strengthen the flavour, then charcoal filters and oxygenates it for a soft finish. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
It is made at NOM 1616 in Amatitán, Jalisco, without chemicals, flavours, colours or sweeteners, to preserve the rich flavour of Los Bajos agave. Código uses only fully matured blue Weber agave and Amatitán water from freshwater pools and rainwater, filtered through the volcanic soil of Los Bajos, and its proprietary chopper extracts only the best juice and pulp from the first press.
Charcoal filtration removes the colour while keeping the complexity of barrel-aged tequila, giving the clarity of a blanco. Expect cooked agave, vanilla, toasted coconut and fresh citrus, with soft oak, sweet agave, caramel, cocoa and a touch of wine tannin, and a smooth, clean finish.
A rare find in the cristalino category, it makes an elegant gift.
Enjoy it neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail.
Reposado, meaning rested, is tequila aged between two months and a year in oak, which gives it a pale gold colour and a gentle touch of wood while keeping the agave bright and lively.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
