Coit Spirits Earl Gray Gin is an American-distilled contemporary gin made with Earl Grey tea in the still, where the juniper is second in character to the tea, bottled at 94 proof (47% ABV).
Coit Spirits is the work of long-time Napa Valley vintners, lovers of spirits and enamored by gin, who have harvested and bottled more than 48 vintages of wine in three countries. Trained by European ginsmiths, they set out to capture the essence of each ingredient: wine allows three to four weeks of fermentation to get it right, while gin gives you only eight hours to bring out each botanical's character. The brand is inspired by the undaunted courage of San Francisco's Lillie Hitchcock Coit, and the see-through bottle incorporates Coit Tower into its shape.
Distilled tea gins are difficult to make, and it took 12 months to perfect this recipe of 10 botanicals for aroma, flavor, balance and stability. The tea goes into the still, so distillation captures the pure essence of black tea and bergamot citrus without the tannin or color of a steeped version, leaving the gin crystal clear.
It is the bergamot that defines the gin's character: bright citrus and fragrant black tea over a supporting juniper backbone, refined and elegant. If you like Earl Grey tea, this is absolutely the gin for you.
A Gin & Tonic is a perfect way to express the tea notes; garnish with orange peel, thyme and red peppercorns. It also makes a striking Negroni or a Brit 75 with lemon, simple syrup and sparkling wine.
