Coit Spirits Indiana Straight Bourbon is a high-rye, four-grain straight bourbon distilled and aged at MGP in Indiana, bottled straight from the barrel at 98 proof (49% ABV) with no charcoal or cold filtration.
Made with 100% local grain to the still, it is distilled and slowly aged on site in Indiana, where the whiskey ages 25% slower than on the West Coast and conforms to a traditional bourbon character of complex grain expression. The four-grain mash bill is unique for MGP: corn and rye provide the backbone, wheat uplifts both aroma and flavor, and barley harmonizes the three. Aged in new American white oak in the humid bourbon belt, it is assembled in small 12-barrel batches, proofed and bottled with no added caramel flavor or color. Coit's founders came to spirits after harvesting and bottling 52 vintages of wine in three countries.
"Spicy grains" define the profile, with the 49% ABV maintaining persistent bourbon and grain flavors and preserving a complex, fruity grain character.
The tall Coit bottle makes it a handsome gift.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
Four-grain bourbons use corn, rye, wheat and barley together.
Straight bourbon must age at least two years in new charred oak.
