Compass Box Celestial is the final whisky in The Extinct Blends Quartet, the series in which Compass Box recreates the spirit of long-lost blended Scotch whiskies. To build it, the team opened an original 1960s bottling of a classic blend, and Celestial is the most peated whisky in the series. It is bottled at 50% ABV.
Each Extinct Blends whisky starts from a real bottle of a blend that no longer exists, studied for its character and then reimagined from Compass Box's own stocks. Celestial looks back to the 1960s, and it closes the quartet with the most peat of the four.
On the nose come earthy, salty coastal peat with pine, lime zest and seaweed. The palate is spicy, with gingerbread, stem ginger and lime marmalade wrapped in gentle smoke. Whisky Advocate awarded it 93 points.
The label is a painted sky of swirling clouds framed in an oval, and the bottle comes in a kraft presentation box with the same artwork. Released in limited numbers, it completes the set for anyone collecting The Extinct Blends Quartet and makes a striking gift for a lover of peated whisky.
