Cómplice Mezcal Joven is an artisanal mezcal made from 100% Agave angustifolia (espadín) in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca, bottled at 43% ABV.
It is produced under the Mezcal Denominación de Origen Protegida by mezcalero Ignacio Martínez.
As a joven, it is unaged, letting the character of the roasted espadín and the mezcalero's craft shine through clearly.
Expect cooked agave and gentle smoke with citrus, green herbs and a touch of minerality.
Its tall bottle with a black label and teal base carries the signature of its inspiration, a mezcal for sipping and sharing. Espadín is the most widely grown agave in Oaxaca, and in the hands of a skilled mezcalero it shows a lovely balance of sweetness, fruit and smoke. Cómplice means 'accomplice', a nod to sharing a bottle with good company, and this joven is an excellent introduction to traditional artisanal mezcal.

How to Enjoy It
Sip Cómplice Joven neat in a copita or small glass, with orange slices and sal de gusano on the side in the Oaxacan tradition. It also makes a smoky Mezcal Margarita with fresh lime and agave syrup, a Mezcal Negroni with sweet vermouth and bitter aperitivo, or a Paloma with grapefruit soda. For a tasting with friends, pour small measures alongside other mezcals to compare agaves and regions. Pair it with tlayudas, mole, grilled meats, chapulines and dark chocolate. For a gathering, chill the bottle and set out glasses, ice and garnishes so guests can serve themselves. A bottle also makes a thoughtful host gift for a dinner party or the holidays.
