Coppercraft has been distilling in Holland, Michigan, since 2012, making New American craft spirits the traditional way, with grain, water, oak and time. Its name is a tribute to the American craftsman, building on West Michigan's legacy as a home of high-quality makers and manufacturers, and the agricultural ingredients in its own spirits come from local Michigan farmers.
The Straight Rye marries the distillery's own Michigan rye with aged rye barrels from Indiana, and Coppercraft applies the same patient blending and proofing approach it uses across its whiskeys. Distilled and aged to straight whiskey standards, it is bold, spicy and unapologetically rye.
The rye moves across the palate in stages, first with hints of cocoa and malt, then kicking in with a peppercorn spice that is distinctly rye. Expect fresh cracked pepper, dried herbs, toasted grain and a hint of citrus zest on the nose, with layers of rye bread, clove and caramel on a full-flavored palate.
A no-nonsense, full-flavored whiskey, it holds its own neat and absolutely shines in a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned.
American rye whiskey is made from a mash of at least 51% rye and aged in new charred oak, giving it a spicier, drier character than bourbon, with notes of pepper, herbs and baking spice.
