DeLeón Añejo is a highland tequila made from 100% blue Weber agave from the Los Altos region of Jalisco, aged over a year in American oak and finished in French oak wine casks, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Launched in 2009 by a serial entrepreneur and tequila aficionado, DeLeón defied the conventions of the category to set a new standard of luxury, known for its "luxury with an edge" persona. Its tequila blends the art of tequila with the mastery of French winemaking. The Highland agave is hand selected at peak ripeness, and the plants yield the sweetest piñas, giving the tequila its abundant character and balance.
Bold American oak followed by delicate French oak wine casks creates a balanced profile of rich caramel, toasted oak and dried fruit, with a hint of silky vanilla on the finish.
The bold D bottle makes it a striking gift.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
