Don Cayo Añejo Green Ceramic Special Edition is a 100% blue agave tequila crafted in El Arenal, in the lowlands of Jalisco, and presented in a hand-painted polygonal ceramic decanter in green, cream and orange with traditional Mexican motifs. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
Don Cayo was founded in 1954 in honour of the family patriarch, Don Cayetano González. Its añejo is known for an exceptionally smooth, sweet profile with low astringency, and is finished in ex-bourbon barrels, making it a favourite of newcomers and seasoned tequila drinkers alike.
A rich, luminous amber, it is velvety and sweet-forward, with caramel, vanilla, oak, butter and honey rounding out the earthy cooked agave.
The decorative decanter makes it a coveted gift and a centrepiece for a home bar.
Sip it slowly, neat, as a digestif.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
