Don Pancho Orígenes Reserva 8 Year is a Panamanian rum blended by legendary Cuban-born master blender Francisco "Don Pancho" Fernández, with no rum younger than eight years, aged in ex-bourbon American oak and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Francisco José Fernández Pérez, Don Pancho, was born in Cuba and spent some five decades learning, researching and making rum, trained in the Cuban tradition before relocating to Panama. There, in the 1990s, he found a neglected distillery in the Herrera region and built it into Las Cabras, one of the most respected rum distilleries in the world. He dates his rums by the youngest rum in the blend and personally selects each barrel from his own collection. The 8 Year is the youngest of the Orígenes series, alongside the 18 and 30 Year.
Sweet bananas and tropical fruit lead the nose. Smooth and round, the sweet brown sugar flavors reveal baking spice, bananas Foster and maple-coated walnuts, with vanilla and caramel, and the sweet nuttiness lingers long after each sip.
