Don Q Reserva de la Familia Serrallés 20 Year Old is the most exclusive rum ever released by the Serrallés family of Puerto Rico. Created to celebrate 150 years of the family company and its Don Q brand, it is a blend of 20-year-old rums drawn from the distillery's oldest barrels, limited to just 1,865 bottles in honour of the year the company was founded.
The rum was hand-selected by sixth-generation distiller Roberto Serrallés. He started from a lot of 36 charred American white oak barrels that had been ageing since 1994 and chose the very best of them for this blend. Once combined, the rum was returned to the charred barrels for a few more months so the aromas and flavours could marry before bottling. The result is a rum of rare depth that shows how gracefully Puerto Rican rum can age.
Both Serrallés and Don Q marked their 150th anniversaries in 2015, and this bottling was the family's way of honouring that milestone. The rum is presented in a sculpted crystal decanter labelled Reserva de la Familia Serrallés, with the gold Don Q crest, and arrives in a handsome wooden chest marked for the 150th anniversary. It is bottled at 40% ABV, letting the silky texture and long-aged character speak for themselves.
