Dos Maderas 5+5 is a triple-aged rum: Caribbean rum from Barbados and Guyana aged five years in the Caribbean, then five more in Jerez, Spain, in Palo Cortado and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
The rum begins in Guyana and Barbados, distilled from sugar cane and aged in ex-bourbon casks in the tropical heat. It then travels to Williams & Humbert in Jerez de la Frontera, where it spends three years in casks that held 20-year-old Palo Cortado and two years in casks that held 20-year-old Pedro Ximénez, using the solera system.
Dark amber in color, it opens with fig and raisin and leads to rich, ripe fruit on the palate, seasoned with tropical spice and sherry, with smoky oak and a hint of tobacco leaf.
The extra time in PX casks gives it a sweet richness that makes it a great gift for sipping-rum fans.
