Dry Fly Bourbon 101 was the first legal bourbon made in Washington State, aged a minimum of three years in 53-gallon American oak barrels and bottled at 101 proof (50.5% ABV).
It features corn grown by the local Hutterian Settlement and triticale grown by Mitch the farmer, distilled through twin bespoke 450-liter Christian Carl copper pot stills from Göppingen, Germany. Dry Fly Distilling, founded in Spokane, Washington, in 2007 by two friends inspired while fly fishing in the Pacific Northwest, is a farm-to-bottle producer that makes every drop from raw materials grown locally by sustainable farms and never buys bulk alcohol.
Caramelized sugar, toasted oak, warm spice and vanilla on the nose lead to a rich palate of sweet corn, baking spice and butterscotch, with toasted nuts and dark fruit.
The bold orange label makes it a great gift for Northwest bourbon fans.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
Straight bourbon must age at least two years in new charred oak.
Its 101 proof gives a fuller body and richer flavor.
It pairs with grilled steak, barbecue or dark chocolate.
It is a great gift for Washington natives.
