Dueling Grounds Distillery began operating in Franklin, Simpson County, Kentucky, in 2014, and takes its name from local history. Very near the distillery was a well-known dueling ground called Linkumpinch, where disputes were settled at twenty paces. Its spot in the peculiar triangular jog of the Kentucky and Tennessee state line, where legal jurisdiction was vague and prosecution for murder avoidable, attracted duelists, and the Sanford Duncan Inn provided food, drink and shelter to those genteel gunfighters. The distillery's flagship bourbon carries the Linkumpinch name.
This gin is a unique extension of the distillery's signature American Dry line. It infuses the traditional botanical recipe with floral and sweet elements for a modern, approachable profile. The full botanical list reads hibiscus, honey, juniper, orange peel, lemon peel, angelica root, cardamom, coriander, licorice root, ginger, cassia and red alaea salt, all in measure to create a flavorful gin.
The hibiscus gives the gin its striking ruby color and a tart, floral lift, while the honey rounds the edges with gentle sweetness. Underneath, the classic juniper and citrus backbone of the American Dry keeps it recognizably gin.
