Linkumpinch Bottled in Bond is a four-year-old wheated bourbon from Dueling Grounds Distillery in Franklin, Kentucky, made from 66% corn, 22% wheat and 12% malted barley and bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV).

Dueling Grounds is a small, independent grain-to-glass craft distillery, never sourced, making its whiskey with 100% Kentucky-grown corn, wheat and barley and pure local water. As a bottled-in-bond whiskey, Linkumpinch follows the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897: the product of one distilling season and one distillery, aged at least four years in a bonded warehouse and bottled at exactly 100 proof.

The nose shows vanilla, cardamom spice, apple and oak, with caramel, ginger and a floral note. The palate is creamy, with caramel, cocoa, cereal, apple and allspice, and a touch of oak wood.

It is a fine gift for bourbon lovers who seek out small Kentucky craft distilleries.

Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.

Wheated bourbons replace rye with wheat as the secondary grain, giving a softer, sweeter, rounder profile.

Franklin is in south-central Kentucky near the Tennessee border, far from the big distilleries of Bardstown and Frankfort.

A splash of water opens the vanilla and spice in a 100-proof bourbon.
