El Luchador Blanco (80 Proof) is a 100% blue agave tequila from tequilero David Ravandi, bottled at 40% ABV and inspired by the famed masked wrestlers of Mexico.
Ravandi entered the artisanal tequila business in the mid-1990s and created El Luchador as a portfolio of outstanding tequila expressions: a Still Strength Blanco, this Blanco, a Reposado and an Añejo. The name and the bold wrestler-mask label are a tribute to lucha libre, Mexico's famous masked wrestling tradition.
This is the standard-strength sibling of the brand's high-proof blanco, an unaged tequila made for everyday Margaritas and cocktails while still showing real agave character. It is favored by mixologists as a foundation for building authentic cocktails, and it holds up as a fine sipping tequila too.
El Luchador Blanco opens with notes of fresh agave and delivers bright citrus flavors with a saline finish. Clean and lively, it lets the cooked agave lead without heavy sweetness.
If you enjoy it, the rest of the range shows how the same agave develops: the Reposado rests four to six months in white oak barrels for roasted agave, citrus and vanilla, and the Añejo spends fourteen to sixteen months in barrel.
Blanco tequila is bottled unaged or rested for less than two months, so it shows the agave at its purest: bright, peppery and fresh. It is the classic choice for margaritas and palomas, and a good blanco is just as rewarding sipped neat.
