El Tequileño Reposado is a classic highland tequila from the La Guarreña distillery in Tequila, Jalisco, rested at least three months in American oak and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
El Tequileño was founded in 1959 by Jorge Salles Cuervo, and it is made exclusively at La Guarreña, the family distillery (NOM 1108) in the town of Tequila, now run by the Salles Cuervo family. Named Agave Producer of the Year, it has long been called one of Mexico's best-kept secrets.
The agave is estate-grown in the highlands of Jalisco. After fermentation and distillation, the reposado rests for at least three months in large American oak vats, which round the agave with gentle oak, vanilla and spice while keeping the brand's bright, clean house style.
The result is a smooth, rounded reposado in the classic El Tequileño style, with the oak in a supporting role.
Sip it neat or on the rocks, or mix a reposado Margarita, a Paloma or a Pineapple and Sage Margarita, a house favorite.
Reposado, meaning rested, is tequila aged between two months and a year in oak, which gives it a pale gold colour and a gentle touch of wood while keeping the agave bright and lively.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
