Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch C924 is an 11-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon, uncut and non-chill filtered, bottled at 129 proof (64.5% ABV), the third and final Barrel Proof release of 2024.
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is produced at Heaven Hill's Bernheim Distillery in Louisville from a mash bill of 78% corn, 12% malted barley and 10% rye, aged in new charred American oak and bottled straight from the barrel. Each bottle is hand-labelled with its unique proof and batch number, and the expression was named Whisky Advocate's 2017 Whisky of the Year.
Batch C924 is dark, rich and concentrated, with a prominent nutty profile balanced by classic Elijah Craig caramel, vanilla, butterscotch and black pepper and cinnamon spice.
A full-strength, decade-plus bourbon, it makes a fine gift for collectors.
Sip it neat, then add water to bring the proof to your liking.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
Kentucky straight bourbon must be made in Kentucky from a mash of at least 51% corn, aged at least two years in new charred oak and bottled with nothing added but water.
Elijah Craig is named after the eighteenth-century Kentucky preacher often credited with ageing whiskey in charred oak barrels.
Barrel Proof batches are released a few times a year, and each carries a batch code; C924 marks the September 2024 release.
At 129 proof, a few drops of water open up the nuts, caramel and spice.
