Espanita Double Barrel Reposado is a small-batch 100% Blue Weber agave tequila from Los Altos de Jalisco (NOM 1467), aged in American white oak and then finished two to four months in freshly emptied Kentucky bourbon barrels, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Espanita was founded in 2017 by tequila industry veteran Marina Wilson, and its tequilas are crafted by Master Distiller Beto Ramírez from agave grown at high elevation in the Highlands, under the motto affordable luxury without compromise. Double Barrel is the first release in the brand's limited Barrel Reserve Collection: the reposado ages first in American white oak, then continues for two to four months in freshly emptied bourbon barrels. The extended aging across two kinds of wood mellows the spirit and enriches its flavor; it has earned 97 points and a Triple Gold at the MicroLiquor Spirit Awards.
Aromatic, with a satiny body defined by the sweetness of toasted oak and bourbon-driven vanilla over slow-baked agave, it finishes prodigiously long.
The ornate sun label makes it a handsome gift.
Reposado, meaning rested, is tequila aged between two months and a year in oak, which gives it a pale gold colour and a gentle touch of wood while keeping the agave bright and lively.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
