Etsu Double Orange is a Japanese gin made at the Akita distillery in the north of Honshu, led by Japanese bitter orange peel and bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV) in a 700ml bottle.
Etsu is an artisanal gin born from an ancestral recipe, and its name means pleasure in Japanese. Inspired by Japanese artisanal methods, the Etsu range combines emblematic botanicals where citrus, flowers, spices and woody notes come together, and each expression has its own character: Double Orange skips yuzu entirely to put bitter orange at the center.
The traditional botanicals undergo a long, seven-day maceration before being distilled without the botanicals in the still, for more finesse and elegance. Japanese bitter orange peel, green orange peel for body, juniper berries, liquorice and angelica roots and coriander seeds harmonize in a gin with fresh, fruity notes.
Clear and transparent, it is fragrant and sunny, evoking fresh orange. Juniper brings a tangy, peppery note, liquorice root an aniseed, woody taste with a touch of bitterness, and angelica its characteristic warmth. A true ode to Japan, it is ideal for cocktails or with tonic.
Make the Etsu Orange Gin & Tonic: 50 ml Etsu Double Orange and 100 ml Mediterranean tonic over ice, stirred and finished with a citrus peel. The bottle and its geisha artwork make it a striking gift.
