FEW Bottled-in-Bond Straight Rye Whiskey comes from FEW Spirits in Evanston, Illinois, and is bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV) under the strict standards of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897.
As a bonded whiskey, it is the product of one distillation season and one distiller, aged at least four years in new charred American oak barrels in a federally bonded warehouse. The mash bill is rye-forward at 70% rye, with 20% corn and 10% malted barley. It followed FEW's 2021 bottled-in-bond bourbon.
The nose leads with bold spice, black cherry, vanilla, stone fruit and a hint of oak smoke. The palate shows spicy rye with marzipan undertones, black cherry, layers of vanilla and oak, and stone fruit sweetness, with notes of menthol, licorice, milk chocolate and baking spices from cinnamon to allspice. The finish is long and warming, with rye spice, oak, gentle sweetness and a touch of black pepper.
Its classic bonded label makes it a handsome gift for rye lovers.
American rye whiskey is made from a mash of at least 51% rye and aged in new charred oak, giving it a spicier, drier character than bourbon, with notes of pepper, herbs and baking spice.
