FEW Straight Rye is a grain-to-glass rye whiskey mashed, fermented, distilled, aged and bottled in Evanston, Illinois, from 70% rye, 20% corn and 10% malted barley, bottled at 93 proof (46.5% ABV).
Born of hearty grain and patience, FEW Rye marries a generous rye content with the sweetness of corn for a genteel interpretation of the venerable spirit. The grains are sourced from within 100 miles of the distillery, and the mash is fermented with a wine yeast from France's Loire Valley that brings fruity esters. It is patiently aged in air-dried oak barrels for a spicy character the distillery calls the renaissance of rye.
A soft but dominant rye leads a complex nose of caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon and wood, with pear and peach. The palate starts with buttery rye, raw grains, cinnamon, light orchard fruit and honey, finishing crisp with rye and fruit.
The blue fountain label makes it a handsome gift.
