Forbidden Small Batch Batch 3 is a wheated Kentucky straight bourbon from master distiller Marianne Eaves, Kentucky's first female master distiller since Prohibition. At least five years old and bottled at 95.2 proof, each batch is made from 50 barrels or fewer.
Forbidden breaks with bourbon convention: its mash bill of white corn, white winter wheat and malted barley is fermented at a low temperature, a 'low and slow' approach that develops more esters in the mash. The wheat leans the whiskey sweeter, giving a soft, gourmand bourbon.
Expect vanilla bean and crème brûlée on the nose, with dried fruit, hazelnut, light citrus and gentle layered spice. The palate brings caramel, citrus oil and delicate florals with baking spice, oak sugar and a soft, chewy sweetness, and the finish is creamy and sweet, with oak and spice.
The faceted bottle with its gem-like silhouette makes it a beautiful gift.
Enjoy it neat or with a single ice cube.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
