Four Corners American Gin is a terroir gin made in Portland, Oregon, the first gin crafted with botanicals from all over the United States, bottled at 82 proof (41% ABV).
Four Corners celebrates the diverse and iconic landscapes of America. To make it, the team tapped distiller Christian Krogstad, whose creation of Aviation Gin in 2006 was a seminal moment for American gin, and he recruited herbalist Elizabeth McElligott to source strictly domestic botanicals. It took a year to find botanicals that could represent the country's landscapes, and almost another to whittle them down, plot them on a map, balance them and perfect the recipe. The gin was released, fittingly, on July 4.
Wild, old-growth juniper forms the backbone. Picked in central and eastern Oregon between sagebrush and pine forest once the snow melts, both the purple and green berries are used, along with the needles. Around it sit botanicals from every corner: cherry bark from the deep Southeast, sacred yerba santa from the Mojave, juicy Maine cranberries, linden flowers from up around North Dakota for light citrus and pale honey, American blackberry leaves for spring meadow and forest after rain, and prickly ash leaves for petrichor, spicy basil and vanilla.
The juniper takes a back seat to earthy, herbal flavors and black pepper spice, softened by floral notes. Floral and citrus on the nose with a warm touch of vanilla, it starts bright on the palate before moving to herbal sweetness and a layer of wet spring leaves, finishing with cool mint and fresh rain.
Creamy, balanced and contemporary, it makes a beautiful Martini, Gin & Tonic or Tom Collins.
